and “The Son of the Father” (Jn. 1:18; 3:16–18; I Jn. 4:9; II Jn. 3). Jesus referring to Himself as “The Son of God” is what infuriated the Pharisees. They said, “He makes Himself equal with God” (Jn. 5:18). The charge thus leveled against Christ by the Jews was not at all disclaimed by Jesus because He did in fact make Himself equal with God, and rightly so!
